PRIVACY NOTICE ON THE PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA
FOR THE MAARIF TURKISH LANGUAGE DEBATE FINAL PROGRAM
Dear Participant,
Pursuant to the Personal Data Protection Law of the Republic of Türkiye No. 6698 and the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (“Law”), Turkish Maarif Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “MAARIF”) holds the legal status of data controller in regard to the processing of your personal data. The information pertaining to the data controller is as follows:

This information notice has been prepared by MAARİF in its capacity as the data controller under the Law.
The participation of the student, parent/ guardian, teacher (“Participants”) in the “Maarif Türkçe Münazara Finali” (Maarif Turkish Language Debate Final) (“Program”)—including all activities related to the organization, production, filming, broadcast, and promotion of the Program in any media channels (including but not limited to TV, online platforms, and social networks)—will require the processing of personal data. In this context, personal data belonging to Participants, namely identity, contact, physical space security, image, voice, visual and audio recordings, legal transaction, academic achievement, debate results and awards may be collected and processed by MAARIF under the applicable data protection legislation.
Such data are requested for the purposes of:
– the organization and secure execution of the Program, including participant management,
– production, filming, recording, live and recorded broadcast on national TV, digital platforms, social media, and other media in all formats,
– dissemination, re-broadcast, and use in institutional, commercial, and promotional content (e.g. clips, highlights, trailers, spots, media reports),
– oversight and ethical compliance,
– financial and accounting operations (if justified by prizes or reimbursements),
– management of legal affairs and emergency response procedures,
– operational, technical, and communication activities,
– ensuring the security of the Program, Participants, and data controller operations,
– fulfilling information obligations to authorized persons, institutions, and organizations,
– managing any publicity, press, or public relations directly related to the Program and its Participants.
Within this scope, the personal data you provide may be processed through written, oral, or electronic means, and by way of automated or non-automated methods, on the basis of the following legal grounds:
- where it is necessary to protect the life or physical integrity of the data subject or another person, in cases where the data subject is incapable of giving consent due to actual impossibility or where consent is not legally valid;
- where it is directly related to the establishment or performance of a contract and the processing is necessary for the personal data of the parties to the contract;
- where it is necessary for the data controller to comply with a legal obligation;
- where it is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or protection of a right;
- where it is necessary for the legitimate interests of the data controller, provided that such processing does not harm the fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject.
In the course of the Program’s organization, production, broadcast, and promotion, the personal data you share with MAARIF may be transferred to recipients domestically and abroad, on the basis of your explicit consent and as required for: producing, filming, editing, broadcasting, re-broadcasting, archiving, promoting and publicizing the Program and the results/performances of the Participants (including on national television, international channels, digital platforms, social media, and in institutional/promotional materials).
Although such transfers are carried out with appropriate diligence, it should be noted that these transfers are made to countries and organizations outside the jurisdiction and control of MAARIF. As such, there may be a risk that recipient third countries or media partners do not provide an equivalent level of data protection. Once images, video, audio or other data are broadcast or published as part of the Program, MAARIF cannot guarantee complete erasure or restriction from all platforms or third-party reuses. MAARIF will, however, take all reasonable steps to comply with your rights under the Law.
Within the scope described above, the personal data obtained by MAARIF from Participants may be shared with:
- a) broadcasting channels (national or international), audiovisual production companies, event/technical service providers, public institutions, promotional and press partners, social/digital media platforms, business partners, consulting firms, suppliers, and other parties as required for the production, broadcast, and commercial/institutional promotion of the Program;
- b) relevant persons and entities, shareholders, affiliated legal entities (“Maarif Community”), and/or domestic or international affiliates, as well as business and commercial partners, sponsors, and media agencies involved in the Program;
- c) our business partners, consulting firms, courts, authorities, and competent regulatory bodies, where such transfer is necessary for MAARIF to fulfill its legal obligations;
- d) data centers/cloud service providers from whom infrastructure services are procured for planning, monitoring, securing, backing up, and making available all activities;
- e) third parties contributing to the coverage, promotion, and archiving of the Program, including journalists or institutional media.
All personal data transfers conducted by MAARIF are carried out in compliance with the Law. The data processing and transfer activities undertaken within this scope adhere to the provisions of the Law. Your personal data will be retained for the duration prescribed by the applicable legislation; in cases where no specific duration is indicated, it will be stored for the general statute of limitations period. Upon the expiration of this period or when the purpose of processing has been fulfilled, the data will be destroyed during the next scheduled 6-month periodic disposal period.
In accordance with the Law, you have the following rights concerning all personal data you have shared with the Foundation:
- To learn whether your personal data is being processed,
- To request information if your personal data has been processed,
- To learn the purpose of the processing of your personal data and whether it is being used in accordance with its purpose,
- To know the third parties to whom your personal data is transferred domestically or abroad,
- To request correction of your personal data if it has been processed incompletely or inaccurately,
- To request the deletion or destruction of your personal data,
- To request that third parties to whom your personal data has been transferred be notified of any correction, deletion, or destruction of personal data due to incomplete or incorrect processing,
- To object to any result arising against you from the analysis of your processed data exclusively through automated systems,
- To demand compensation if you suffer damage due to the unlawful processing of your personal data.

In accordance with the Law, you may submit your request to exercise your rights concerning the protection of your personal data either in writing or by using the email address you previously provided to MAARIF and which is registered in our system.
The necessary explanations, along with the application and information request form, can be accessed through the application link on our website at https://turkiyemaarif.org/page/kvkk-politikamiz. You may also send your application to our e-mail address. In your application submitted within this scope, the following information must be included:
- Your full name and, if the application is in writing, your signature,
- Your nationality, passport number, or, if applicable, your identification number,
- Your address for notification purposes, either residential or workplace,
- Your email address, phone number, or fax number for notification purposes, if available, and
- The subject of your request.
Relevant information and documents should be attached to the application.
MAARIF will respond to your requests within this scope as promptly as possible and at the latest within thirty days, free of charge, depending on the nature of the request. However, if processing the request incurs an additional cost, the applicable fee may be charged. Additionally, only the portion of your application that concerns you personally, or the participant for whom you are the parent or legal guardian, will be addressed; applications made on behalf of any other person (such as a spouse, relative, or friend) will not be accepted.
