World-renowned, Nobel Prize-winning scientist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar met with administrators, teachers and students at Azerbaijan International Maarif Schools.
Prof. Dr. Sancar was welcomed by the President of Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMF) Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün. Prof. Sancar, who visited the Maarif campus and classrooms and received information, observed the experiments carried out by the students in the chemistry laboratory and gave advice.
TMF Azerbaijan Country Representative Dr Serdar Gündoğan made the opening speech of the event and greeted the guests.
Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün stated that the visit of the pride of the Turkish world, Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar to Azerbaijan International Maarif Schools is of historical importance and will be a source of motivation for students who build their future with Maarif Schools and said, ‘We are proud to organise such a beautiful event for our children. Our nation has faith and struggle, as long as we can direct this energy to our future.’
Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar addressed the students: ‘I am not used to long statements, but I must say that I have always wanted the Turkic world to reach the best, if this does not happen, I cannot be happy. If you trust in God, you will win in the end, you will reach your goal. I was very worried before I received the Nobel Prize. I knew that I represented the entire Turkic world. I thought that I should give a good lesson in this direction and I prepared for it for months. I had the Turkish flag in my hand and the Ottoman coat of arms on my chest, I wanted them to know where I came from and who I represented.’
Answering the questions of the children, the scientist noted that more work should be done in the field of natural and mathematical sciences. The scientist especially mentioned the importance of sports.
Prof. Sancar was presented a commemorative gift by Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, President of TMF and Prof. Dr. Nevzat Şimşek, Member of the Board of Trustees of TMF.
The event ended after the book signing ceremony.
