Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMF) organized an iftar program in Somalia's capital Mogadishu.

TMF President Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, Turkish Ambassador to Mogadishu Alper Aktaş, TMF Board of Trustees Member Prof. Dr. Nevzat Şimşek, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations, Somali officials, parents, and many guests attended the iftar program held at TMF's central campus in Somalia.

In his speech at the iftar, Akgün stated that TMF has schools in 52 countries around the world and that they organize iftar programs with similar participation in almost all schools, and that Maarif Schools, which started operating in Somalia in 2016, aim to contribute to the modernization of students by preserving their culture, language and traditions.

Akgün said, "We provide the best of the modern world's education, but at the same time we want our students to adhere to their own culture and modernize without alienation. We are opening these schools to solve African problems together with Africa and we are investing together in the future of brotherly and friendly countries like Somalia."

Ambassador Aktaş stated that Türkiye aims to touch the Somali people and TMF serves this purpose in its activities and said, "Our aim is to touch hearts. Sometimes we realize this goal through this iftar organized by Maarif Schools and sometimes by providing water from a well drilled by TIKA."

Somali International Maarif Schools, which operates with 2 campuses in Mogadishu and successfully teaches science, social sciences, information technologies, local culture, an international language and Turkish, contributes to the training of qualified human resources for the development of the country.
