A handover ceremony was held at the Turkish Maarif Foundation following the appointment of Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün as Ambassador to Azerbaijan. On January 10, 2025, Prof. Dr. Akgün, who was appointed as the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Baku by the Presidential Decree dated January 10, 2025, bid farewell to the Turkish Maarif Foundation, where he served as the President for 8 and a half years.
Members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of the Turkish Maarif Foundation, Heads of Departments and employees took part in the ceremony held at the headquarters of the Foundation. During the ceremony, Mahmut M. Özdil, who was newly elected as the President of the Turkish Maarif Foundation, thanked Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün for his services and presented him with a bouquet of flowers. Akgün presented Özdil with a special ring symbolizing the maarif seal.
Prof. Dr. Akgün stated that during his presidency of the Turkish Maarif Foundation, they have made a great effort to carry out the work of the foundation and emphasized that projects such as the teacher academy and the scientific board are important as well as developing the foundation's corporate management approach. “This great institution has now developed its own corporate management approach to a great extent,” Akgün said, adding that special attention should be paid to education and R&D activities.
Stating that he spent 8 and a half years at the Foundation, Akgün thanked all the employees and wished success to the new President Mahmut M. Özdil and the new members of the Foundation's Board of Trustees and Board of Directors.
After the ceremony, the new President Mahmut M. Özdil thanked Birol Akgün and said, “I would like to thank Birol for his support and attitude for 8 and a half years. We will do our best to carry the Foundation forward with the same determination and enthusiasm from now on.”
Akgün said goodbye and left the Turkish Maarif Foundation with applause.
Who is Mahmut M. Özdil?
Born in 1975, Mahmut M. Özdil graduated from Galatasaray University Faculty of Law in 2000. He completed his master's degree in public law at the same university. Özdil has conducted academic studies in the fields of administrative law and administrative trial law, and has lectured and worked as a legal consultant in this field. Since the establishment of the Turkish Maarif Foundation, Mr. Özdil has served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees of the Foundation.
