2nd Africa Maarif Sports Games Ends

The 2nd Africa Maarif Sports Games organized by the Turkish Maarif Foundation in Mali was completed with the participation of young athletes from various countries. The medals were awarded at the award ceremony attended by Turkish officials.

The “2nd African Maarif Sports Games” organized by the Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMF), which carries out international education activities on behalf of Türkiye in 55 countries around the world, ended in Mali.


TMF brought together the talents of Africa from Ethiopia to Niger, from Chad to Guinea, from Nigeria to Somalia in the sports competition organized for the second time in various branches in Mali.


Dr. Amadou Sy Savane, Mali's Minister of National Education, Abdoul Kassim Fomba, Mali's Minister of Youth and Sports, Efe Ceylan, Türkiye's Ambassador to Bamako and Dr. Mehmet Cangir, TMF Board Member attended the final and award ceremony of the 2nd Africa Maarif Sports Games which started on February 15th and ended today.


“Mobilize, fight, run to victory for Africa” On the first day of the sports competition organized under the slogan “Africa Maarif Sports Games”, the final competitions in football, basketball, volleyball and handball, 100 meters and 400 meters running, relay running, shot put and javelin throw, high and long jump and swimming were held at the 26 March Stadium in Bamako.


Young athletes from Mali, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Cameroon, Congo, Madagascar, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Somalia, Togo and Tunisia participated in the African Maarif Sports Games, while around 80 public and private schools from the capital Bamako competed for first place.


Mali Maarif Schools became champion in volleyball


Mali Maarif Schools came second in the boys' volleyball final and became the champion in the girls' volleyball.


In the 100 meters boys' final, Salim Keder Hassan from Ethiopia Maarif Schools won gold, Cheick Ali Abdou from Niger Maarif Schools won silver and Hasan Targuio from Burkina Faso Maarif Schools won bronze.


In the 100-meter girls' final, Kadiatou Bagaga from Mali Maarif Schools won gold and Fatoumata Traore won silver.


In the 400 meters men's final, Daryll Georges Mbiguis from Gabon Maarif Schools came third.


Mali Maarif Schools came third in the boys 4x100 meter relay, while Mali Maarif Schools won gold in the girls 4x100 meter relay.


Maarif students collected medals in the girls' long jump


In the boys' long jump, Boubacar Diallo from Mali Maarif Schools came first and Daryll Georges Mbiguis from Gabon Maarif Schools came second.


In the girls' long jump, Maarif Schools won all the medals. First place went to Rekou Angue Maena from Gabon, second to Awa Diakite from Mali and third to Dialla A. Aurelia from Burkina Faso.


In the high jump boys, Daryll Georges from Gabon Maarif Schools won gold and Ibrahima Dahirou from Cameroon Maarif Schools won silver.


Kadidiatou Bakaga from Mali Maarif Schools came second in the girls' high jump.


Togo, Burkina Faso and Gambia won medals in shot put and javelin


In the shot put men's final, Adam Rachid Abdoul from Togo Maarif Schools won the gold medal.


Dialla Ali Aurelia from Burkina Faso Maarif Schools came second in the shot put girls' final.


In the javelin throw boys, Abdoulie Barrow from Gambia Maarif Schools won the gold medal and Hasan Torguio from Burkina Faso Maarif Schools won the silver medal.


In the girls' javelin throw, Dialla Ali Aurelia from Burkina Faso Maarif Schools won silver and Cecilia Y. Françoise from Gambia Maarif Schools won bronze.


Niger and Congo Maarif students won the swimming medals


Ayma S. Djibo from Niger Maarif Schools won the first place in boys' swimming and Kona Banier Marilyne from Congo Maarif Schools won the gold medal in girls' swimming.


After three days of competitions, medals were presented to the winners at the award ceremony.


The 2nd Africa Maarif Sports Games ended with a concert.
