Young journalists receive their certificates in Albania

Volunteers from among high school students in Tirana, the capital of Albania, have received training as part of TRT’s “Journalism for Youth” project. The three-day event received participants from various Albanian cities.

At the Digital Journalism Workshop, which was held in cooperation with the Maarif Schools in Tirana, the partipants received training from experts and volunteer journalists.

Muhammed Ali Üstün, the project’s organizer, made the following remarks: “We were constantly hearing about refugees in the news and then asked ourselves why young people could not tell those stories themselves and why we had to receive such news from others. Initially, we launched this training program at Syrian refugee camps in Turkey.”

Since the project kicked off in 2018, more than 2000 students have received training in 35 sessions in Turkey and abroad. The workshop in Tirana attracted 45 high school students from across Albania. One of the participants said that they used social media frequently and decided to attend the training session to do it better: “[The project] was really useful. It was a great experience.”

At the Digital Video Competition, which was held at the end of the three-day event, the students found an opportunity to showcase their newly-acquired skills. The event ended with the presentation of certificates to all students that participated in the workshop.
