A commemoration ceremony was held in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, to mark Mevlana's 747th Anniversary.
Afghanistan Economy Minister Dr. Karima Hamid Faryabi, Justice Minister Fazil Ahmad Manawi, Culture Minister Mohammad Tahir Zahir, Higher Education Minister Gulam Abbas Basir, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Permanent Representative for Afghanistan Ambassador Huseyin Avni Botsalı, representatives of TIKA and the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, teachers and students attended the Şeb-i Arus ceremony, organized jointly by Turkish Maarif Foundation and Yunus Emre Institute.
In his speech, Culture Minister Zahir noted that Mewlana's works have been translated into many languages and that these works were sources of inspiration.
Describing Mewlana as a gathering point between nations, Zahir emphasized that he was the common value of Turkey and Afghanistan.
The ceremony continued with the Sama show (Whirling Dervishes) performed by Shuhud-i Arifan, and ended with the reading of Mewlana's poems, Ney concert and a sketch show.
