The champion of the Maarif Poetry Reading Competition is from Somalia


The Turkish Maarif Foundation continues its activities in 50 countries by carrying out social, cultural and artistic works that will contribute to the personal development of its students as well as support programs for their academic education.

The final of the poetry reading competition held between Maarif Dormitories around the World with the slogan “Add poetry to your life” took place within the scope of the May, 13 Turkish Language Day Events.

The jury for the contest included members of the board of directors of the Turkish Maarif Foundation, Ahmet Türkben, İpek Coşkun and Mustafa Çaltılı, Turkish and Foreign Language Teaching Department’s Head, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Gültekin, the head of Corporate Communications and Promotion Department Sait Karahasan, and the head of Resource Development and Cooperation Department, Mehmet Met. The contest was open to middle and high school students.

In the competition where 81 students from 9 countries competed, Samira Abdishakur Hussein from Somalia Banadır girls’ dormitory came first, İhsanullah Rızai from Afghanisatn-Shibirgan boys’ dormitory came second and Romeo Raymond from Tanzania-Arusha boys’ dormitory came third.
The awards were as follows : a trip to Turkey for the champion, a tablet for the second and a smart watch for the third place. All the students who participated in the competition were given a book.

The competition, which is planned to become traditional, aims to discover the potentials and artistic tendencies of the students, to increase the communication between countries and dormitories, to ensure cultural cohesion and to popularize the effective use of Turkish through poems.
